    Job Summary

    The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (Assistant or Associate Professor) in the Department of Kinesiology in the primary area of exercise science. Review of applications will begin January 31, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.





    Essential Functions

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in exercise science and related areas.
  • Engage in research.
  • Serve the University, profession, and community.
  • Be a collegial member of the Department.





Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in exercise science or kinesiology with emphasis in exercise physiology, biomechanics, or motor learning.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with departmental colleagues, faculty, and other professionals in other disciplines both within and outside of UT Tyler.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-doctoral experience preferred.
  • Experience with college-level teaching and scholarly writing.
  • Teaching in distance education format (hybrid, online).
  • High potential for independent research and external funding of research.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and grant-writing.

Department of Kinesiology

The Department of Kinesiology, within the School Health Professions, offers two undergraduate and one master's degrees: B.S.-Kinesiology (which includes options of athletic training and physical education teacher certification), B.A.-Wellness, and M.S.-Kinesiology (with online option). In a typical fall or spring semester, about 350 students enroll in Kinesiology courses. The Department is housed in the Jean Lancaster Academic Wing of the Herrington Patriot Center.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
