The College


The College The College The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses ten departments, covering a wide range of undergraduate specializations in the Arts and Sciences including English Literature & Linguistics and Arabic Languages, History, Sociology, Social Work, International Affairs, Mass Communication , Psychology , Policy, Planning & Leadership, Statistics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Public Health , Biomedical Sciences and Human Nutrition. The College also houses four Master Programs in Environmental Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Gulf Studies and Arabic Language. Additionally, the College offers a Program of Arabic for Non- Native Speakers.



Position Summary      




The Department of Arabic Language at Qatar University, Doha, invites applications for Assistant Professor position in Arabic Language & Literature, to begin in the Fall of 2013. The position is three years renewable. Application to this position is open to scholars with substantial research, academic and teaching experience in Arabic Language & Literature with application to Arabic. Fluency in Arabic and proficiency in English or another European language is required. The candidate must use effective teaching methods that utilize modern technological innovations to ensure the creation of an environment most conducive to learning for the undergraduate students joining the program. The Department of Arabic is committed to familiarizing students with a wide range of texts, theories and perspectives, and to helping create an inclusive intellectual community at Qatar University.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Teaching specialized courses to masters students.
2. Advising masters students academically.
3. Supervising theses prepared by masters students.
4. Provision of general educational lectures and sessions for students.
5. Active participation in the department, program and college committees.



Candidates will be considered for the position based on the following qualifications:
1. Experience in teaching.
2. Demonstrated success in accreditation.
3. Leadership qualities and experience in promoting team work.
4. A record of academic and research achievements that warrants appointment at the requested rank.


1. A PhD in Arabic Language & Literature.
2. Teaching experience not less than 3 years.
3. Publishing an adequate number of academic research in reliable scientific journals.
4. Publishing an adequate number of specialized scientific books related to the field of specialization.

A three-year renewable contract;
