Student Success Coordinator

About the Opportunity

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

The N.U.in Program is one of Northeastern's signature first-year experiences and truly embodies the university's experiential approach to education. Launched in 2007, The N.U.in Program is rooted in our core belief that Northeastern students are curious, adaptable, and agile as they explore the world around them.

Through The N.U.in Program, students will have a rigorous academic experience intertwined with unique cultural and social opportunities outside of the classroom. Bolstered by a robust professional support system, this one-semester experience supports students' growth as global citizens and fine-tunes the skills they need to navigate their future.

Students admitted to the N.U.in Program embark on a unique journey. They study abroad in their first semester with other Northeastern first-year students at the N.U.in location of their choice and begin their studies on the Boston campus during their spring semester. Partner universities provide academic courses to the participants while Northeastern staff provide on-site leadership and support services during the program.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Global Student Success team which supports the student's experience while on the program is hiring several Student Success Coordinators (SSC) for our global on the ground teams, also referred to as “on-site staff". The primary purpose of the Student Success Coordinator is to develop and maintain an environment conducive to social, personal and academic success of first-year students during the program. In addition to supporting staff at the host institution, these staff members focus on creating positive and valuable experiential learning opportunities. Students are supported in their residential experience, academic coursework, navigating and experiencing the region and through connecting students to support services throughout the Northeastern community. Coordinators work in teams and are supervised by an on-site professional staff member. Site staff enthusiastically embody the mission and values of the N.U.in Program and Northeastern University while working and living in close proximity to first-year students.

This position is a short-term, six-month commitment with full workdays for the Fall 2023 semester (dates vary by location). This on-site position also requires attendance during a mandatory training period beginning in July 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts. This is an in-person position that requires site staff to live in student residential accommodations with students during the Fall 2023 semester which runs from August - December 2023.

The SSC reports to an onsite Student Success Manager (SSM).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Training - active participation in training and orientation in summer 2023 to prepare for on-site duties during the fall semester.
  • Community building - develop and implement activities to support engagement, belonging and personal growth, such as floor meetings and group meals. Partner with N.U.in leads to support staffing excursions in the region and collaborate with the academic institutions' staff when needed. Encourage student academic success and personal growth, respond to student concerns, and connect students to on-site academic, medical, and mental health resources. Coordinators must maintain a high visibility within their residential communities.
  • Student Conduct: Monitor student behavioral policies and protocols, uphold a high standard of student conduct. Enforcement of Northeastern University Code of Student Conduct. Hold administrative hearings with students regarding alleged policy violations, adjudicate cases, assign sanctions and make referrals when necessary. Utilize educational sanctions as a developmental component as appropriate. Contact parents when appropriate in resolution of student conduct concerns.
  • Crisis Management - Respond to emergency and crisis situations during business hours or when on call. Participate in an on-call duty rotation including evenings and weekends. Evaluate and assess student behaviors and community trends and provide appropriate interventions. Conduct regular rounds of student residences. Escalate issues as needed to Student Life and GEO staff.

Student Success Coordinators will work collaboratively to provide for students' safety and well-being and contribute to the development and overall success of the program. Responsibilities may vary based on site placement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in a relevant field such as Higher Education, International Education or College Student Development or equivalent experience preferred
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated student service experience or higher education experience in a residence life or student affairs capacity, which includes experience living with or working with high school or undergraduate students (in residence life, student affairs, camp counselor, or related role)
