VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE (VWC), a small (1400 students, 87 full-time faculty), growing, selective, and diverse liberal arts institution sited on 300 beautiful wooded acres in the heart of the historical, economically dynamic, and culturally rich Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News metropolitan area, seeks applications for the position of Research Librarian for the Hofheimer Library, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2012. The successful candidate for this position will be an energetic, creative and collegial individual with demonstrated experience planning and providing instruction to individuals and groups. Librarians support teaching, learning and academic work in all departments at the college. Responsibilities include: assisting library patrons with all transactions; consulting and working with faculty and departments to design instruction, research assistance and materials; developing research workshops for students and faculty; contributing to library-wide planning, goal-setting and assessment efforts; participating in collection development; leading tours; and staffing outreach and orientation events. The candidate should demonstrate adaptability, servant leadership, ability to work with diverse populations, and strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills.  Librarians at Virginia Wesleyan College have faculty rank and participate in college governance. The position requires a masters degree in library science or information science from an ALA-accredited program, with three (3) years successful experience.
