DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following seven distinct specialty emphases: child development and family studies (non-licensure), child development early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), family and consumer sciences (consumer sciences), family and consumer sciences (fashion merchandising and design), food and nutritional sciences (dietetics), food and nutritional sciences (dietetics pre-medicine nutrition) and food and nutritional sciences (food science). The department offers a Master of Science degree in one program area, food and nutritional science. Additionally, the department offers two Master of Arts in Teaching degrees in family and consumer sciences education and child development early education and family studies-BK. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles and family issues.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establishing a research program in the area of food and nutritional sciences; conducting research and developing research proposals to secure extramural funding from federal, state, and private sources of funding; managing research projects; disseminating research findings in peer reviewed publications; teaching and advising graduate and undergraduate students; directing graduate research; participating in curriculum development and other academic activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in Food and Nutritional Science or a closely related field from an accredited university

Preferred experience: Experience in undergraduate and graduate teaching; experience in applied research related to nutrition - and health; demonstrated success in attracting extramural funding and managing projects; a distinctive publication track record; excellent analytical skills and excellent oral and written communication skills; and RD certification.
