William Paterson University invites applications for the position of Associate Professor or Professor and Chairperson, Department of Special Education and Counseling. The Department Chairperson is a tenure track faculty member with responsibility to provide academic and administrative leadership for the department. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Education, the Chair provides appropriate leadership for the advancement of academic excellence and the effective functioning of the department, which includes the implementation of university, college and department policies and plans. Department chairpersons are appointed to serve three-year terms and may be reappointed based on the recommendation of the faculty to the President or her designee (Provost and Senior Vice President or College Dean). This is a 10-month faculty appointment with additional compensation for summer chairperson responsibilities. The chairperson's appointment is dependent upon annual faculty reappointment until tenure is granted.

Candidates must have a doctorate in Counselor Education or Special Education (or in a related discipline accompanied by an advanced degree/specialization in Special Education) and must meet requirements for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Experience in K-12 settings also is required. Administrative experience at the level of program director, coordinator, or department chair and NCATE and/or CACREP accreditation experience is desirable.

The Chairperson retains all the rights and privileges of a faculty member as contained in the statewide union agreement. Rank and salary are dependent upon experience. The Department of Special Education and Counseling offers programs at graduate and undergraduate levels which are nationally recognized by the CEC or CACREP-accredited. In addition to its excellent programs and accomplished faculty, the Department enjoys rich partnerships with professional development schools in New Jersey and with Windesheim University in the Netherlands.
