Position: Artist Teacher/Performer of Clarinet, Instructor of Music (Full Time)

Description:  Teach applied clarinet, perform in faculty ensembles, teach other music classes depending upon the candidates background, interest, and departmental needs, and actively recruit quality clarinet student music majors to the department

Qualifications:  A Masters Degree in Music, teaching experience at the College/University level, Professional experience as a performing clarinetist, and successful experience as a teacher of applied clarinet are required.  Doctorate or ABD in Music preferred.

Department and University: An academic unit within the College of Liberal Arts, the Department of Music is comprised of 20 full-time and 22 part-time faculty members that include 4 full-time woodwind faculty positions and a highly active faculty woodwind quintet. A fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, the Department serves 230 music majors and offers BM degrees in Performance, Music Education, and Music History/Literature; the BA in Music degree (general, pre-med, or computer science emphases); MM degrees in Performance, Conducting, and Music Education; and the MH (humanities) degree in Music.  Housed in the universitys Creative Arts Center, the Department is home to the newly renovated Schuster Concert Hall. The Departments facilities also include an additional recital hall, teaching studios, rehearsal spaces, technology-enhanced classrooms, recently renovated practice rooms, and a music technology/computer laboratory. Two additional academic units, the Department of Art and Art History, and the Department of Theatre, Dance and Motion Pictures, are also housed within the Creative Arts Center complex. The University was founded in 1964, is located in the northeastern suburban area of metropolitan Dayton, and maintains an overall population of approximately 20,000 students.

Region: Greater Dayton and surrounding metropolitan communities together support one of the nations most visible, active, and thriving performing arts scenes, and offers the potential for professional performance opportunities with four major symphony orchestras, numerous high-level regional orchestras, opera and ballet companies, and other performing arts organizations, all within a two-hour driving radius of Wright State University.
