Program Director - Native American Initiative

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Multicultural Student Services, the Program Director provides support services, creates and implements retention and completion efforts, and establishes connections to community resources for UVU's Native American/American Indian population. The Program Director collaborates closely with campus entities and community partners to provide a safe and supportive environment conducive to student success.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree and two years of experience directly related to the Summary of Duties OR a bachelor’s degree plus four years of directly related experience and/or any combination of education and/or experience directly related to the Summary of Duties totaling eight years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrates significant understanding of Native American/American Indian culture and ethnicity.
• Demonstrated knowledge of retention and completion strategies for Native American/American Indian populations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment strategies for Native American populations.
• Demonstrated experience advising college students and/or student organizations grounded in theoretical framework.
• Knowledge of and experience in developing and presenting training programs and/or workshops for employees and students.
• Knowledge of higher education.
• Knowledge of fundraising methods.
• Demonstrated skill in supervising and providing direction to staff, student employees, and volunteers.
• Must possess strong communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
• Must possess strong skills in facilitating dialogues about diversity, inclusion, and Native American issues.
• Must possess skill in preparing and managing budgets.
• Must demonstrate interpersonal, technical, analytical, marketing and resource development skills necessary for program effectiveness.
• Demonstrated competency in computer software and diverse programs necessary for position responsibilities.
• Demonstrated skills in developing professional relationships with students.
• Ability to provide one-on-one support and resources for students that include but are not limited to: dealing with identity development, coping with campus climate concerns, struggling with academic demands, etc.
• Must demonstrate the ability to foster and build collaborative work environments.
• Ability to work successfully with a diverse student body and staff and possess a strong commitment to creating an inclusive environment for staff and students, the delivery of programs that support the diversity objective of the campus community, and the development of cultural competency skills.
• Ability to plan and execute small and large scale events.
• Ability to foster collaborative efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to serve on community committees and build effective partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications plus experience working directly with tribal communities and governments totaling eight years. Proficiency in Native American/American Indian language(s).

Physical Requirements:
General office environment.

Pay Range: $43,400 - $54,250
