The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is pleased to announce the tenth annual competition of the Mellon/ACLS Public Fellows program. This career-building fellowship offers recent humanities PhDs opportunities to make an impact in the worlds of publishing, communications, policy research, advocacy, the arts, community development, and international affairs. This year’s fellows will help empower incarcerated students, promote scientific research, advocate for a more just and equitable economy and society, and more. This initiative is made possible through the support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

In 2020, ACLS has partnered with 21 organizations to offer the following opportunities:

Compensation: Fellows receive stipends of $70,000 per year and have access to employer-based health insurance through the host organizations. In addition, ACLS provides funds for relocation and professional development.
