The University of Saint Mary of the Lake is seeking applications and nominations of candidates for a faculty appointment in the Department of Dogmatic/Systematic Theology and in the Liturgical Institute.  Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Appropriate earned doctorate is required.  A pontifical doctorate is preferred.  Quality teaching experience in a college, university or seminary is required.  Candidates should be prepared to make the profession of faith and oath of fidelity required of seminary professors in a Roman Catholic seminary.

The appointee will teach the required courses in dogmatic theology and sacramental/liturgical theology and in the M.Div. program, the M.A. (Liturgical Studies) and in other post-graduate programs.  Faculty teaching load averages five courses per year.

The Mundelein faculty consists of 41 full-time and 12 part-time members.  The Department of Dogmatic Theology provides instruction in the core disciplines of theology.  The Liturgical Institute offers masters and doctoral programs across the full range of liturgical studies, but with an emphasis on sacramental theology.  Our post-graduate research programs invite research theses and dissertations in the areas of doctrine of God, Christology, theological anthropology, spiritual theology and sacramental/liturgical theology.

The University of Saint Mary of the Lake is the oldest chartered university in the Chicago area.  Exclusively a school of theological and ministry formation, in addition to the M.Div. for priesthood candidates, the University offers masters and doctoral degrees and a number of certificates for lay ecclesial ministers, deacons and lay leaders.  Graduates are prepared for professional and graduate programs in theological seminaries and in university departments of religion and philosophy.  Many students also enter into church and nonprofit vocations immediately upon graduation.

The University is located 45 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, in the Village of Mundelein.  Chicagoland is home to 12 theological schools, ranking it among the great academic centers in the world for the study of theology.  Being situated within the metropolitan area provides numerous benefits, including access to world-class healthcare, exceptional state and private universities, and numerous cultural and entertainment opportunities including music, theater, art, professional athletics, and commerce.

Likely candidates will be sent an appointment questionnaire for completion and return.  All materials will remain confidential.  Applicants must be Catholics in good standing who conduct their academic studies in communion with the Church.   Evaluation of applications will begin at once and continue until the position is filled.  Appointment would begin July 1, 2020.

Inquiries, credentials and supporting materials should be addressed to: Mary Bertram, Office of Academic Affairs at mbertram@usml.edu.
