The Director of International Student and Study Away Services is charged with overseeing planning and implementation of programs, partnerships, and policies related to domestic and international study away programming, serves as the College’s administrative coordinator to support pathway and pre-pathway partnership housed on the Milton campus, and will provide administrative support for other international programs in development. The incumbent in this position will interact and collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and partner organizations on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Study Away Programming, Partnerships, and Policies:

  • Collaborate with the Director of the Academic Enrichment Center to counsel and provide support to students preparing for, enrolled in, or returning from a study away experience.
  • Foster and develop partnerships with institutions and third-party providers that offer relevant programs of study and where Curry students would thrive during semester-long immersive experiences.
  • Support faculty in developing and coordinating short-term faculty led international and domestic study away programs. Establish relationships with third party providers and travel companies that can provide in-country support to programs of this nature.
  • Promote study away experiences to students and collaborate with Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Student Affairs to determine eligibility clearances for program applicants.
  • Plan and execute events related to Study Away including the annual Study Abroad Fair, returnee dinners, pre-departure orientations, and visits from third party affiliates.
  • Chair Study Away Policy and Proposal Committee which evaluates and approves short-term programs and policies specific to study away experiences.
  • Plan and transition to a direct bill study away model for programs facilitated by third party providers. 

Serve as the College’s Administrative Coordinator for the pathway and pre-pathway programs:

  • Serve as the College’s principal point-of-contact for the on-site director and other relevant partners and College personnel.
  • Collaborate with campus administrative office, including, but not limited to, Undergraduate Admissions, Registrar, Student Accounts, and Student Affairs, to assist in the success of the pathway and pre-pathway programs.
  • Coordinate the College’s efforts associated with enrolling and retaining pathway students into their second and subsequent years as matriculated Curry College students.
  • Support campus climate and acculturation efforts for international students and employees that regularly interact with international students. 

Technology and Administrative Support:

  • Serve as functional administrator for Curry’s AbroadOffice site that is used for Study Away program promotion, applications, and as the repository for required documentation for programs.
  • Coordinate and manage all required internal and third-party documents from students participating in Study Away experiences.
  • Establish and manage relevant study away budgets for each short-term faculty-led program and manage other institutional funds to support international programming in collaboration with the Assistant VP for Academic Affairs.
  • File all required information to obtain travel insurance for individual students and faculty participating in international study away programs.
  • Serve as a designated school official (DSO) to assist in the enrollment, retention, persistence, and support of international students who directly matriculate to the College and to those who enroll through pathway and pre-pathway programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Education Abroad or International Student Services.
  • A strong history of leading collaborative projects and efforts across multiple departments.
  • Strong evidence of using data to inform goal setting, planning, and assessment efforts.
  • Experience including office management and budgetary oversight.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidates must fulfill all mandated requirements associated with being a PDSO and must have the ability to be approved as a PDSO by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience utilizing technologies including Banner and AbroadOffice (or similar system) to support study away programming and student success.
  • Extensive working knowledge and understanding of education abroad, immigration regulations, and the SEVIS technical platform.
  • Experience working with international partners including study abroad providers, travel organizations, and English language pathway programs.
  • Direct experience working with students whose native language is not English.
  • The ability to speak multiple languages. 

At the College’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the college, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
