Assistant Professor of Theatre, Middlebury College, MIDDLEBURY, VT -- The Department of Theatre and Dance invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position in African-American theatre or Latinx theatre beginning fall 2020. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in one or more of the following areas: directing, teaching literature, history of theatre and leading devised work. Preferred qualifications include: evidence of artistic accomplishment at the professional level; ability to teach Theatre history survey courses; and significant training in one or more movement-based techniques.Additional teaching responsibilities will be defined by the candidate's strengths, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute regularly to the college-wide curriculum, including the first-year seminar program and winter term.Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching and scholarly potential.
Middlebury's Theatre Program features three tenured/one tenure-track/two non-tenure-track faculty; four full time tech staff; one office coordinator. Average 35 majors; Facilities: Seeler Studio Theatre, semi-flexible black box seating 130-180; Wright Memorial Theatre, proscenium house seating 350; Hepburn Zoo, smaller semi-flexible space dedicated to student generated productions; 2 set shops, one costume shop. The program is notable for its 33-year association with PTP/NYC, the professional off-Broadway theatre company that produces a rep season every summer in New York City.
