Position:               Associate/Full Professor in the tenure-stream

 

Appointment:      Eight-month, full-time, (in the tenure-stream) appointment; starting fall 2020

 

Description: The School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an associate or full professor in Health and Physical Activity. We seek a candidate who focuses on health and physical activity or exercise science, with children or families, and within schools, neighborhoods, or other contexts. Researchers in physical activity and motor/cognitive development or exercise psychology are especially encouraged to apply. This person would join our vibrant community of researchers and practitioners examining critical issues in health and human development. Additionally, this person would contribute to our various degree programs, including our undergraduate, master’s, PhD, and our School-wide EdD program. The successful candidate will have a commitment to equity and justice; teach and advise students; supervise master’s projects and doctoral dissertations; participate in program/course development; and provide service to the Department, School, and University.

 

The University of Pittsburgh is a large public research university with approximately 19,000 undergraduate students and 9,000 graduate students. Many of our faculty members in the area of health and physical activity focus on training exercise scientists in clinical exercise physiology and health promotion and providing wellness programming for the University and the surrounding community. We offer multiple degrees including: Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Masters of Science (M.S.), Education Doctorate (Ed.D.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

 

Qualifications:    

Required:

  1. Earned doctorate in physical activity/exercise science or a closely related field;
  2. Established record of publication in peer-reviewed journals appropriate to appointment at the associate or full professor level;
  3. Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching in physical activity/exercise science;
  4. Demonstrated success in securing external funds as a principal investigator or co-principal investigator;
  5. Demonstrated excellence in the advisement and mentoring of doctoral students;
  6. Established scholarly credentials sufficient for immediate appointment to the Graduate Faculty at the University of Pittsburgh. [https://ir.pitt.edu/graduate-faculty-roster/].

 

Preferred:

  1. Expertise in pediatrics, motor/cognitive development, or exercise psychology;
  2. Experience partnering with schools, communities, or other organizations to translate research to practice.

Responsibilities:    

  1. Conduct independent and collaborative research in health and physical activity;
  2. Publish in peer-reviewed journals;
  3. Pursue external grant funding, independently and collaboratively;
  4. Teach, advise, and mentor scholarly practitioners in the EdD program and emerging scholars in the PhD program;
  5. Contribute to the service mission of the University, School, and Department;
  6. Partner with schools, communities, or organizations on the regional, national, and international level to advance research-practice partnerships in health and physical activity.

 

Salary and Rank: Competitive salary will be commensurate with qualifications at a rank of Associate or Full Professor in the tenure stream.
