Reporting to the President & Vice-Chancellor, the Provost & Vice-President: Academic is the chief academic officer of the University and provides strategic direction and leadership for academic programs and shared services, academic planning, budget planning and resource allocation, and academic labour relations. The portfolio is broad in scope and includes nine faculties, the University Library, Enrolment Services & Registrar, Information & Communication Technologies, Institutional Planning & Analytics, the Office of the VP Academic (Academic Strategy, Academic Quality Assurance and Budgeting) and shared responsibility for Teaching & Learning and Faculty Relations. The Provost & Vice-President: Academic is responsible for advancing academic excellence and ensuring the quality of Laurier’s academic programs, which differentiate Laurier and exemplify Laurier’s strengths in experiential learning, pedagogical innovation, and community engagement. As an integral member of the executive leadership team of the University, the Provost & Vice-President: Academic contributes insight and direction to University-wide strategic planning and the development of the University’s Strategic Mandate Agreement.

The ideal candidate will possess a doctoral or relevant terminal degree, eligibility to be appointed as a full professor at Laurier and a level of scholarship and intellectual acumen that will facilitate credibility both internally and externally. The ideal candidate has demonstrated accomplishments in a complex university administrative role, strong financial acumen, and significant experience in complex budget planning and administration. The next Provost & Vice-President: Academic has experience in leading, managing, and mentoring faculty and staff and experience in, or an appreciation for, leading within a unionized environment. The ideal candidate has experience working in, or an appreciation for, operating within a multi-campus, multi-community organization. The Provost & Vice-President: Academic will need to demonstrate competencies in institutional, academic and people leadership.
