Benefits of the job include an internationally competitive salary, health insurance, and relocation assistance covering the cost of visas and airfare for foreign hires.

Candidates should have or be close to completing a PhD in English Studies, broadly defined. Individuals considering a career outside of North America and the UK are particularly encouraged to apply. Specialty is open, though applicants should have an interest in writing pedagogy and be prepared to teach 1-2 sections of a first-year English-language writing course in collaboration with current faculty. Interest in or experience with business writing, science writing, WID, writing center pedagogy, second-language writing and/or the teaching of English outside of traditionally Anglophone countries is also a plus. Knowledge of Russian is not required though useful for getting around Moscow. All instruction will be in English.

The new Assistant Professor will offer up to 3 courses per semester and assist in the Writing and Communication Center for the New Economic School’s Bachelor’s program. This program offers students a US-style liberal arts education on the way to getting a BA in Economics. It draws the very best students from all over Russia, and our graduates have enrolled in top PhD programs in the United States and Europe. In addition to the first-year writing course, the new hire will have the opportunity to create advanced electives in his or her specialty. Teaching in our Master’s program is also a possibility depending on the candidate’s strengths and interests.

Prospective applicants should submit the following documents to wcc@nes.ru:

  • Letter of interest describing your research and teaching experience
  • Curriculum vitae
  • 1-2 page statement of teaching philosophy

Review of applications will begin on November 30 and continue until the position is filled. Sample syllabi and letters of recommendation will be requested of applicants chosen for first-round interviews, which will be conducted via Skype. Inquiries about the position or about the realities of living and working in Moscow may be directed to Ashley Squires, WCC Director at asquires(at)nes.ru.
