This is a full-time, continuing faculty status (tenure)-track, professorial position.

 

Qualifications: (1) Doctoral degree in music is required and must be completed by Aug 24, 2020; (2) Teaching experience at the university level is preferred; (3) Demonstrated excellence in classical and contemporary composition; (4) Demonstrated experience in contemporary music production, including MIDI sequencing, virtual instruments, and/or modern recording techniques; (5) Evidence of a professional body of works that has been featured, performed, or recorded—a diversity of works in multiple genres is preferred.

 

Responsibilities: (1) Teach assigned courses that may include common practice and contemporary theory, aural skills, counterpoint, orchestration, and composition; (2) Teach introduction to music technology and production; (3) Mentor undergraduate and graduate students; (4) Pursue scholarly and creative endeavors, which may include commissions, performances by peer-reviewed ensembles, multi-media, music for film and other media, and/or recordings; (5) Demonstrate scholarly/creative work according to assignment as well as personal goals and interests; (6) Take an active role in the Composition and Theory Division, including the audition/review process for potential composition majors; (7) Serve on school, college, and university committees as assigned.

 

The School of Music at Brigham Young University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and has 450 majors enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The School has 51 full-time and approximately 70 adjunct faculty members and offers instruction leading to a variety of degrees, including the B.A., B.M., B.F.A., M.A., and M.M. Brigham Young University, which is supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has an enrollment of 33,000 students drawn from all over the world. BYU is located 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah.

4) If applicant is currently teaching at a college/university, submit the last three years of institutional teaching/student ratings either by upload with the application or directly to the search committee chair.
