The Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University is
currently searching for a full-time, non-tenure line position in
Recording Arts and Technology at the rank of Assistant Professor to
begin August 1, 2020. This position represents a critical area of
teaching and support within the Music Program generally and in the
BA degree program in American Musical Culture, in particular the
degree track in Music and Media Studies.
The Music Program seeks a candidate with an established
professional record within the field of recording arts. The
successful applicant will contribute to the growth of the Music and
Media Studies degree track through the teaching of current core
courses in recording arts and technology and through collaboration
with departmental and campus colleagues. An undergraduate degree is
required (Master’s preferred) with a proven record of professional
success. A record of teaching experience in Recording Techniques
and Technology is required, including significant work with
professional software, sound design and engineering, mixing,
podcasting, and related knowledge of recording equipment and
practical skills to prepare students for a professional career in
the music and entertainment industries. This position also entails
the management of our university recording studio, advisement for
the purchase and maintenance of departmental equipment, direction
for student projects (most often in the form of capstones) and as
technical support for professional performances sponsored by the
Music Program (including the Friday Music Series and related
events). Additional expertise in related areas (film and media
studies, journalism) is preferred. The department is
especially interested in candidates whose professional work links
to the music program’s strengths in American Musical
Culture.
