The Department of Mathematics in the College of Science and Mathematics at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic year position as an Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education. The successful candidate will teach, supervise and advise undergraduate (B.S.), graduate (M.S.), and credential students according to departmental needs, conduct scholarly and/or applied research (that also lead to further grants, presentations, and publications), and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities include instruction of mathematics and credential courses for pre-service K-12 teachers in the Bachelor of Science Teaching option, Integrated Credential option, and Liberal Studies programs; and instruction and project advising of students in the Master of Science in Mathematics program. Involvement in the Science and Mathematics Education Center, an interdisciplinary center that conducts outreach, research, and programs related to K-16 science and mathematics education will also be expected.

With a commitment to the highest standards of teaching, the Department of Mathematics serves the University and the community by providing mathematics education to mathematics, science, and engineering majors and to liberal studies majors, the overwhelming majority of whom are pre-service elementary school teachers, as well as general education mathematics courses for all majors. In pursuit of its educational mission, the department offers the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (w/options Applied Mathematics; General Mathematics; Pure Mathematics; Statistics; Teaching; and Integrated Credential); Master of Science in Mathematics.

Required Education:
An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Mathematics Education or closely-related disciplines from an accredited institution (or equivalent) and a master's degree or extensive coursework in Mathematics. Candidates nearing completion of their doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for an appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2020.

Required Qualifications:
1. Successful experience teaching mathematics courses at the Pre K-12, undergraduate, or graduate levels
2. Evidence of ability to conduct successful research related to mathematics education
3. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Evidence of ability to teach master's level courses on cognition in mathematics and research methods in mathematics education;
2. Publication record in mathematics education commensurate with experience;
3. Successful teaching or supervising experience in a credential program setting;
4. Involvement in research related to Pre K-16 mathematics teaching or learning;
5. Evidence of successful external funding;
6. Active involvement in community-based outreach related to mathematics.
