THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, GREENSBORO

The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Greek language, literature, and culture at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2020. Candidates must have Ph.D. in Classical Studies or a related field in hand by the time of appointment. The Department offers an undergraduate major with concentrations in archaeology, language & literature, and civilization. The ability to teach ancient Greek and Latin at all levels is required. We invite applicants with interests from across the range of ancient Greek language, literature, and culture who would expand and not significantly duplicate the department’s current strengths; applications would be particularly welcome from scholars with special expertise in drama, historiography, or ancient medicine. Strong commitment to scholarship and publication is necessary as well as evidence of excellent teaching. The standard teaching load is 3:3. All members of the department do some service for the College and University; service expectations are kept to a minimum in the first two years.

Please submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and transcript electronically via https://spartantalent.uncg.edu (click on “Faculty”). Applicants are asked to provide the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of three (3) references in the References section of the electronic application. These references will be solicited by the UNCGjobsearch system via email, and asked to provide a confidential letter of recommendation on behalf of the applicant. This will occur as soon as the applicant successfully submits the application and receives a confirmation number from the UNCGjobsearch system.

Please note that we will not be interviewing candidates at the SCS/AIA Meetings in Washington, D.C. All interviews will be conducted via Skype in the first two weeks of December 2019. In order to be considered for these interviews, the deadline for applications is October 18, 2019. Applications received after that deadline will be considered until the position is filled. Inquiries may be addressed to the Search Committee Chair, Susan Shelmerdine, by email: shelmerd@uncg.edu.
