The English Department at East Stroudsburg University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in African American literature. Secondary specialization in Latino/a literature, First Nations/Native American/Indigenous literature, Asian American literature, and/or African Diaspora literature is preferred.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates
will have a strong track record in scholarship, teaching, and
service. The successful applicant will have a sustained
research portfolio in African American literary studies, evident in
graduate coursework, dissertation research, and scholarly
presentations and/or publications. Teaching strengths and
experience in African American literature survey courses,
specialized upper-level courses in African American and/or African
Diaspora literatures, and college-level writing courses are vital.
Experience with curriculum development and interdisciplinary
programs is desirable. A Ph.D. in English with a focus on African
American literature is required: advanced ABD candidates will be
considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach and develop coursework in African American literary studies.
- Contribute to the English Department’s goal of diversifying its course offerings and programs.
- Carry a 4/4 teaching course load.
- Maintain a strong academic writing/research presence.
- Advise students in majors and minors.
- Serve on departmental and university-wide committees.
