The Department of Special Education (SPED) in the College of Education, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa invites applications for two (2) full-time, 9-month, tenure track, Assistant Professor positions beginning August 2020. Position Numbers: 0084307 and 0084261.

Salary Information: Minimum of $64,896, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Other Conditions: General or Special funds. Two positions, contingent upon position clearance, department needs, and fund availability. Selectees are required to complete the COE New Faculty orientation in the first year, Title IX training, and pass a criminal background check.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses via on campus and/or a variety of distance delivery modes; supervise field/practicum activities in field-based teacher preparation and BCBA programs;
  2. Serve as cohort coordinator for candidates in teacher training or BCBA programs;
  3. Advise students;
  4. Maintain national certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Hawaii licensure as a behavior analyst;
  5. Contribute expertise in area of severe/profound intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), emotional/behavioral disorders, applied behavior analysis, research designs, and/or grant writing for the Department of Special Education;
  6. Maintain active program of research/scholarly activity and publications in area of specialization;
  7. Provide service to the university, public schools, and professional community;
  8. Participate in program review, program assessment, and accreditation activities;
  9. Contribute to the University of Hawaii's mission as being a Hawaiian place of learning;
  10. Other duties as assigned.

 
Minimum Qualifications

  1. Doctorate in special education with an emphasis in teaching students with severe/profound intellectual disabilities, autism, or emotional/behavioral disorders; or applied behavior analysis; or closely related field from an accredited institution. Will consider ABD if completed by August 2020.
  2. Certified as a BCBA or BCBA-D.
  3. Experience working in public or private school settings (US or international location) providing special education or applied behavior analysis services with individuals who have severe/profound intellectual disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and/or autism.
  4. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

 
Desirable Qualifications

  1. Broad knowledge of special education for students with disabilities.
  2. Scholarly expertise in special education for students with severe/profound intellectual disabilities or emotional/behavioral disorders.
  3. Scholarly expertise in applied behavior analysis.
  4. Experience in teaching, supervising, and/or advising special education teacher candidates or behavior analyst candidates in higher education.
  5. Evidence of scholarly research activity in a line of inquiry related to students with severe/profound intellectual disabilities, autism, or emotional/behavioral disorders.
  6. Knowledge, experience, or research that contributes to the University of Hawaii's mission as being a Hawaiian place of learning.
