The Department of English and Communications at Norwich University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English who will also serve as the Director of the Center for Writing. The typical course load is 4/3 with a 1/1 reduction for directing the Center for Writing.

Responsibilities:

In addition to teaching first-year writing, the successful candidate will have opportunities to teach a range of advanced writing courses?such as Professional and Technical Writing, Writing for the Web, Rhetorical Criticism, and Advanced Composition?which are capped at 15 students per section. The Director of the Center for Writing shapes the mission of the Center and its strategic plan, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, develops innovative programming, and engages in reflective assessment practices. In conjunction with the Assistant Director, the Director is also responsible for ongoing development to include oversight and training of our staff of 10-14 peer coaches.

 


Requirements:

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or related field by July 2020; a minimum of two years of experience working in a university writing center; and, demonstrated excellence in teaching first-year and advanced writing courses, commitment to service, and potential for successful research and publication. 

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated excellence in the administration of a writing center and experience in writing assessment and curriculum development. Candidates with expertise in professional writing, technical communication, media studies, or writing in the disciplines are especially welcome.
