Job Description

Oversee and plan NAU faculty/staff short-term lecturing trips to partner institutions in China and Vietnam, including coordination of curriculum design, logistics, visa, and other related functions
Supervise and work with the Division’s Coordinator to support China/Vietnam program students in a variety of capacities; including orientation, transition, and daily program administration
Identify solutions to resolve needs and issues of students and visiting scholars
Work with CIE’s division of International Student Retention and Inclusion to provide programming activities for China/Vietnam program students to help improve their NAU experience and integration into life in the US
Work with departments across campus on establishing China/Vietnam programs of existing and innovative models, including assisting to develop program articulation plans, communicating program requirements with departments, and providing training on program goals and policy interpretations to stakeholders on campus
Design and deliver cross-cultural informational presentations and training to NAU departments on AAE programs as needed
Represent NAU and deliver informational presentations and pre-arrival trainings to partners, prospective students and scholars; this might include international trips to China and other potential areas upon request
Evaluate the effectiveness of China/Vietnam program student management to develop and implement improved methods; devise evaluation methodology, analyze results and recommend proper actions to the Director of Asian Academic Engagement
Streamline business processes in collaboration with other divisions within CIE and departments on campus, including study agreements, student group coding, financial operation process, etc.
Work with the Director to improve and standardize processes for incoming visiting scholars into the NAU Scholars Academy program
Serve as the centralized point of contact for Asian Academic Engagement while the director is out of the office
Emergency contact for current enrolled China/Vietnam program students on campus
Work with the AAE team on hosting inbound Chinese and other delegations as assigned; lead the execution of high level delegation hosting
Work collaboratively with NAU Marketing department and NAU Beijing office to develop and improve marketing materials and promotional projects (videos, social media, etc.)
Other duties assigned

NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the University for future success of its operational practices. As a result, some aspects of this position may be subject to change, such as, but not limited to: duties, titles, reporting structure, etc.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND six years related experience working with international students from China and Vietnam and with Chinese and Vietnamese university professionals; OR
Master’s degree in a related field AND four years related experience working with international students from China and Vietnam and with Chinese and Vietnamese university professionals; OR
Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education
Written and oral fluency in Mandarin

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience
Demonstrated success in designing programs to support the academic, cultural, and personal success of Chinese and Vietnamese students and scholars
Demonstrated success in developing and strengthening partnerships with Chinese and Vietnamese universities and other educational institutions
Demonstrated success in developing and applying new strategies for recruitment of Chinese and Vietnamese students for study in the United States as economic and demographic realities change over time
