Announcement of the Position of the Chair of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar

Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) (http://www.qatar.tamu.edu/), a branch campus of Texas A&M University (TAMU), invites applications for the position of Program Chair for the Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECEN) Program. This is an open international search and candidates holding the rank of full professor are invited to apply. It is anticipated that the position will be filled by the beginning of fall 2019 semester or as soon thereafter as possible. This position is a four-year renewable appointment at TAMUQ, which is located in Doha, Qatar. The successful candidate must therefore relocate to Qatar.

TAMUQ offers ABET-accredited undergraduate degree programs in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering. These programs attract some of the best high school graduates in the region, resulting in an annual freshman enrollment of approximately 130-140 undergraduate students and a total college enrollment of about 550. The ECEN Program – with the largest student enrollment at TAMUQ - (https://www.qatar.tamu.edu/programs/ecen/) has 12 faculty members, who have a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. The ECEN faculty members are actively engaged in externally funded research and supervise a number of TAMU PhD students, post-docs and research scientists. The program benefits from state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation in support of its key educational and research missions.

The Electrical & Computer Engineering Program provides TAMUQ students with quality education, well grounded in the fundamental principles of engineering that prepares students for positions in industry, government and academia. The ECEN Program actively encourages undergraduate students to participate in research utilizing their facilities and academic support.

The Chair provides overall leadership and direction to the program, manages the use of resources within the program, and ensures that the TAMUQ course offerings are materially identical with respect to curriculum and quality compared to the corresponding disciplines at TAMU. The Chair is expected to promote the development of the Program, be familiar with the ABET accreditation process and work with faculty across the campus, local industry, and the regional community, and to identify and pursue innovations in education, research, and service. The Chair is also expected to teach courses with an overage teaching load of one course (typically 3 credit-hour course) per semester.

Doha is the home of Education City, a dedicated campus devoted to research and education. In addition to TAMUQ, the Education City Campus hosts other academic institutions including Weill Cornell Medical College, Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northwestern University, and Georgetown University. As a branch campus of an international institution of higher learning, TAMUQ and its partners in Education City have significantly contributed to the development of post-secondary education and cultural growth in Qatar.

Qualified candidates must have an earned doctorate in Electrical/Computer Engineering or a closely related field, with excellent teaching and research records, and must have a strong commitment to advocate for the Program. A demonstrated track record of leadership effectiveness is preferred. A successful candidate should be able to lead the Program in developing and implementing a compelling vision for education, research, and service.

TAMUQ offers a competitive salary package commensurate with rank and experience. The package for the Chair includes accommodations, annual home leave allowances, and other benefits. Candidates should submit applications electronically to the Chair of the search committee Dr. Hassan S. Bazzi, Associate Dean for Research, bazzi@tamu.edu

A single PDF file (25 pages maximum) is preferred, consisting of a cover letter (1 page), resume, program vision statement (1 page), teaching philosophy (1 page), research philosophy (1 page), and list of 3 references.

Review of applications will commence immediately and will continue until 30 April 2019. Applications received after this date may be considered until the position is filled.
