The Department of Africana Studies at the University of Pittsburgh seeks applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor to cover courses on Africana-based orientations to sociology, literature, Caribbean culture and history, media, or science.  The one-year appointment begins in August 2019 (PhD required by the time of appointment).  The successful applicants will teach two courses per semester, to include Introduction to Africana Studies as well as upper-level courses in line with individual expertise. Salary and benefits are competitive. 

The successful applicants will be fully integrated into the life of our department and its events and will be encouraged to present work-in-progress and to collaborate with faculty across campus.  The appointee will join a legacy Africana Studies department (founded in 1969) committed to dynamic teaching and a research university with great strengths in international and transnational studies.  Recognizing that intellectual vitality and diversity are inseparable, the university has embarked on significant initiatives to diversify its faculty, student body, and curriculum.
