The Conservatory of Music at the State University of New York at Purchase invites applications to a full-time, tenure-track appointment (beginning August, 2019) as an assistant professor in Jazz Studies. The successful applicant may be called upon to conduct large and small ensembles, teach private study lessons on their instrument/voice, teach a woodwind doubling class (if their instrument is saxophone), Jazz Repertoire, and other courses, as our curriculum may dictate. Teaching duties may include a course about Jazz that is designed for College students who are not enrolled in the Conservatory.

Also required: recruitment activities as assigned by the Conservatory of Music or the Head of Jazz Studies; advising of students as assigned by the Head of Jazz Studies; and service on college committees.

The ideal candidate will have an MM degree, its equivalent or firm plans to pursue such in the next year; a strong performance/recording profile; teaching experience at the university/conservatory level; experience with playing in and directing large ensembles; a demonstrated ability to recruit and retain students of all concentrations; and evidence of strongly collegial nature.
