Assistant Professor or Instructor of Violin/Viola

The University of Minnesota Duluth Department of Music is seeking an experienced teacher and performer for a full-time term position as Instructor or Assistant Professor of Violin/Viola beginning August 19, 2019.  Duties of this position are to teach applied violin/viola to a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate music majors, music minors, and non-majors; build and maintain a strong string studio; coach chamber music; and teach courses in string techniques and other courses at the undergraduate and graduate level as assigned by the Music Department Head.  Service to the department, university and profession is encouraged, as well as continued scholarly/creative activities, performing with Faculty String ensembles, actively engaging in recruitment activities for the department, and participating on school-wide university committees.

Required Qualifications:

Essential qualifications for this position include a completed Masters in a music related field from an accredited institution by June 30, 2019; two years successful experience teaching applied violin/viola and other music courses at the collegiate level, and recognition and accomplishment as violin/viola performer at the state/national level. 

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred qualifications include a completed doctorate in a music related field from an accredited institution by June 30, 2019; three years successful experience teaching applied violin/viola and other music courses at the collegiate level including string techniques; experience coaching chamber music at the collegiate level; recognition and accomplishment as a violin/viola performer at the national/international level; a record of success recruiting string students and developing a violin/viola studio; a record of success working collaboratively with faculty colleagues; and demonstrate ability to support the University’s commitment to equity and diversity.
