The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Monmouth College invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Spanish to teach a wide range of language, literature, and culture courses, beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year. Candidates should have a specialization in contemporary Latin American Literature and Culture.  Experience teaching creative writing, Spanish for heritage speakers, and film and an ability to contribute to related departments is also highly desirable. Additionally, preference will be given to the candidates who show enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teaching and for participating in Monmouth’s general education curriculum, including our Integrated Studies sequence. For more information about Integrated Studies at Monmouth, please see: http://ou.monmouthcollege.edu/academics/integrated-studies/default.aspx.

We seek a dynamic, collaborative educator with a commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, scholarship, and our liberal arts mission. A Ph.D. in hand by start date is required.  Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required. The normal teaching load is three courses per semester. A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting is essential.

Monmouth College is participating in the ACM-Big Ten Academic Alliance Faculty Fellows Program for a Diverse Professoriate funded by the Mellon Foundation; candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education and with doctoral degrees from Big Ten institutions are especially encouraged to apply.

Located in the welcoming community of Monmouth, Illinois, the college is a member of the prestigious Associated Colleges of the Midwest. Following the adoption and implementation of a groundbreaking interdisciplinary general education curriculum and the continuation of a bold strategic plan titled “Think Anew, Act Anew,” the college is now prepared to move confidently forward as an innovator among liberal arts colleges. Monmouth is again in the top tier of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges for National Liberal Arts Colleges, is ranked 70th out of 240 schools in the “National Universities – Liberal Arts” category by Washington Monthly, and was recognized in the top 5% of U.S. Colleges by College Factual for colleges that provide value for students. The College’s mission statement can be found here: https://ou.monmouthcollege.edu/about/mission-statement.aspx

To apply, please send cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching excellence, and contact information for three references (candidates selected for interviews will be asked to send letters of recommendation when contacted) via email to: Frank Gersich, Monmouth College, at facultysearch@monmouthcollege.edu. Review of applications will begin on January 10th, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.
