Assistant Professor of Family Studies, Child and Youth Development

Starting Date: August 15, 2019 or as negotiated. Responsibilities: This is a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a 65% extension and 35% research responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized applied research program related to family studies, child, and youth development and related behaviors. The successful candidate will be expected to work in multi-disciplinary teams and secure external funding. The research activities are expected to support a strong focus on extension and outreach in the same area. The tenure home of the position is the Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education; however, the position is aligned with Penn State Extension's professional development program for early care and education and youth development professionals, Better Kid Care (https://extension.psu.edu/programs/betterkidcare). The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with BKC staff, provide programmatic support based on his or her research expertise, evaluate outcomes of BKC programming, and conduct applied research in support of its mission. A Ph.D. in sociology, family studies, child/youth development, early childhood education, or related social science or human development field is required. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. The ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the University and community is required.
