The Department of Modern Languages and Classics seeks to add to its high caliber, academically diverse faculty with this tenure-track position in Spanish, available August 16, 2019. Open specialty within literary and cultural studies; Latin Americanists as well as Peninsularists (including specialists in Latinx studies) are encouraged to apply, as are those with cross-disciplinary research experience in, for example, language and media studies.

 

Responsibilities include teaching a range of undergraduate courses in Spanish (including intermediate and advanced Spanish language classes, culture classes, and upper-level seminars), maintaining scholarly productivity, and performing appropriate professional service.

 

Minimum qualifications: PhD in Spanish or related field from an accredited institution conferred by date of appointment; at least one year of part-time experience teaching Spanish at the undergraduate level obtained concurrently or at any time; native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English; active research agenda, such as having articles or projects accepted by or submitted to peer-reviewed outlets.

Preferred qualifications:  PhD in literary or cultural studies related to the Spanish-speaking world; record of multiple semesters of successful teaching of Spanish and culture at the undergraduate level; record of publication in peer-reviewed outlets and presentations at professional conferences in the applicant’s area of specialization; evidence of one or more of the following: use of instructional technology and emerging media materials for pedagogical purposes, participation in interdisciplinary projects, curriculum development, experience teaching online and/or hybrid classes, involvement in appropriate professional organizations, involvement in service projects in academia or the community.
