SUMMARY:

 Centenary College of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure-track history position at the rank of assistant professor to begin 1 August 2019.  Candidates should be broadly trained in U.S. history and prepared to teach a range of introductory and upper division courses representing a long chronological timespan.  Preference will be given to candidates with specializations in Twentieth-Century United States/Southern History.  Strong teaching skills, a commitment to scholarship, and student mentoring are required.  The standard teaching load is six courses per year, with some opportunity to teach in immersive May and August terms, and to participate in college-wide programs such as the first year experience (TREK) program and Centenary in Paris.  A completed Ph.D. by August 2019 is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 Teach introductory and upper level courses in history, United States history, history of the South, interdisciplinary studies, and special topics. To carry a full-time teaching load as negotiated with the department chair and Provost, and advise undergraduate students as needed.

 

Job duties include:

  • Teaching introductory and upper-division courses in history, United States history, history of the South, interdisciplinary studies, and special topics.
  • Engaging undergraduate students in legitimate research experiences in the classroom in support of the department’s mission.
  • Adhering to Centenary College’s rigorous standards for faculty members regarding teaching, service, and scholarship as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM

  • Terminal degree in related field is required.
  • Candidates must possess demonstrable skills in, and commitment to, undergraduate teaching and research.

 

PREFERRED

  • Undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Experience with a selective, residential, liberal arts college.
