POSITION:The School of Art at TCU, a progressive independent university, announces a tenure-track appointment in the expanded field of Drawing, beginning August 2019.  Qualified candidates will use drawing as an integral part of their artistic practice and have a familiarity with a wide range of drawing processes and media.  Candidates with interests in digital media, animation, painting, printmaking, unconventional or emerging media, social practice, installation, and/or critical theory are encouraged to apply.

Coursework in the area consists of drawing (all levels), foundations, and interdisciplinary courses such as critical theory and professional practices.  Candidates will have the ability to develop new courses and revise existing courses to meet future school needs.  Course load will be 3/3 at the undergraduate and graduate level.  The successful candidate will serve on graduate committees and work with graduate students.  They will also be expected to oversee and advise Studio Art BFA and BA students.                                         

QUALIFICATIONS:M.F.A. in Art and ability to teach all levels of drawing, including figure drawing, required. Demonstrated artistic achievement as evidenced by a record of creative research and exhibitions is required. Ability to support the University’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is required.                                         

Teaching ability in secondary areas of expertise in animation, 2D foundations, painting, and/or critical theory preferred. Teaching (part-time or full-time) experience beyond the graduate teaching assistant level is preferred. Ability to help shape curriculum for new drawing courses and interdisciplinary opportunities, preferred. Drawing related digital processes such as animation, with Adobe Creative Suite competency are preferred.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor, full-time, tenure-track. Salary and benefits, including benefits for domestic partners, are highly competitive. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

THE PROGRAM: TCU is a progressive independent university with approximately 9,500 undergraduate students and 1,500 graduate students. The School of Art is a NASAD-accredited School of Art that offers the B.A. in Art History, B.F.A. and B.A. in Studio Art with concentrations in Ceramics, New Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture as well as the B.F.A. in Art Education. Graduate programs include an M.F.A. in Studio Art and an M.A. in Art History. The School of Art is housed in the J. M. Moudy Building, an architectural landmark on campus designed by the architectural firm of Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo, and Associates. Outstanding studios, lecture halls, digital labs, and the visual resources library support the creative and academic activities of students. The School of Art includes two active exhibition spaces: the Moudy Gallery (housed in the School of Art) and Fort Worth Contemporary Arts, which showcases contemporary art, located in an urban area on the edge of campus. Near campus is the Cultural District, home to three major museums: The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Kimbell Art Museum, and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. The Dallas/Fort Worth area and the state of Texas provide a rich array of museums, galleries and opportunities for practicing artists.
