The Department of Anthropology at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Academic Year Assistant Professor with the appointment starting in Fall 2019.

The Position
The candidate's research interests may be in any area that complements current program strengths in archaeology, biological anthropology, anthropological linguistics, or sociocultural anthropology. We seek an individual whose research deals with the prehispanic and historic peoples of Mesoamerica, and who can complement our program's emphasis in the interactions between humans and their environments. The individual would be expected to teach existing courses on Mesoamerica, one or more courses on native peoples of North America, and to teach introductory courses within more than one of the major subfields in anthropology.

Responsibilities
Teach general undergraduate courses in more than one of the major subfields (ethnology, archaeology, biological anthropology, anthropological linguistics). Assist with advising of majors and serve on appropriate departmental, college, and university committees. Demonstrate an engaged anthropological scholarship, and make significant contributions at the regional, state, and international levels.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • ABD considered; completed PhD is preferred. Area of expertise may include any dimension of Mesoamerican archaeology that complements existing departmental strengths in archaeology, biological anthropology, anthropological linguistics, and sociocultural anthropology. We seek candidates who can demonstrate their commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring, with ongoing or potential research projects that can foster student involvement and career opportunities, and who have a record of scholarly excellence. Scholarly research excellence as evidenced by publication record is necessary.
  • Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

    Preferred /Desired Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates qualified to teach courses in the prehispanic and historic peoples of Mesoamerica and a course on native peoples of North America, which complement our program's emphasis in the interactions between humans and their environments. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of preparing diverse undergraduate students for graduate education and career opportunities.

    Employment Requirement – Background Check
    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
