The Clarkson University Department of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a renewable, full-time teaching-track appointment in American Politics to begin in August 2019 with a focus on institutions (Congress, the Presidency) at the rank of Assistant Professor. The committee will prioritize candidates with a record of successful teaching of introductory level courses in American Politics, and the ability to teach courses on U.S. Foreign Policy or Peace Studies. The committee would consider additional teaching expertise in Healthcare Politics or Policy a plus.

The teaching load for this teaching-track appointment is four courses in the fall and three in the spring. In addition to offering several political science electives throughout the year, this faculty member will also teach three sections (only one prep) of Clarkson’s required, writing-intensive course each fall for incoming students. The selected candidate will be offered an initial three-year contract with the opportunity for regular renewals. There are no research expectations for contract renewal.

Located in the Saint Lawrence River Valley, between the Adirondack high peaks and Ottawa and Montreal, Clarkson University provides easy access to both outdoor recreation and international social and cultural opportunities. Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, diversity statement, prior teaching evaluations, and a detailed description of the courses they might teach to the University’s website. To submit your application, go to www.clarkson.edu/hr and click “Career Opportunities” below the “Careers at Clarkson section.” The committee will consider doctoral candidates. The search committee will begin reviewing applications immediately, but will give full consideration to any applicant who submits their materials by December 1, 2018. The search committee will continue to accept applications until the department fills the position.

Clarkson University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and actively seeks and encourages applications from minorities, women, people with disabilities and veterans. Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, and criminal background check.
