The Department of English at the University of Southern Indiana invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of English (African-American and Ethnic American Literature) to begin in August 2019. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and scholarship include early American literature (before 1865), multi-ethnic literatures of the US, and critical race theory. Candidates who make connections in their research and/or teaching between African American and Black Atlantic or African diasporic literatures are also desirable. The successful candidate will join a collegial department of twenty-five full-time faculty. The English major includes emphases in literature, professional and technical writing, and English teaching and literature. Opportunities include undergraduate and graduate teaching, scholarly work, and departmental service. The successful candidate will teach rhetoric and composition classes and will also be invited to revise existing courses, develop new courses, and collaborate with other programs to develop curricula related to diversity and African-American studies. Ph.D. in English (or closely related field, such as American Studies) and experience teaching English at the college level are required. ABD candidates considered if degree will be completed by hire date.
