 The Department of History and Anthropology at Southeast Missouri State University invites applications for a renewable non-tenure track position in Anthropology to begin in August 2019. Our small but growing anthropology program seeks an engaging and energetic instructor to teach a range of introductory anthropology classes, with the possibility of developing new courses based on the candidate’s expertise. We are particularly interested in applicants with a demonstrable dedication to undergraduate education and with an appreciation for the regional service mission of a mid-sized university. The successful candidate will clearly communicate a vision for contributing to a rigorous four-field anthropology curriculum while providing individualized student support and opportunities for student success. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach face-to-face and online undergraduate classes
  • Recruit and advise students
  • Maintain a schedule of office hours
  • Attend meetings and engage in service
  • Supervise student use of Archaeology Laboratory 

Required Qualifications 

  • MA, MS, PhD, or ABD in Anthropology (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university).
  • Regional specialization that does not duplicate the specializations of current faculty
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching a variety of introductory anthropology courses at college/university level, including cultural anthropology courses
  • Archaeological fieldwork or laboratory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to teach both face-to-face and online courses.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and vision of Southeast Missouri State University as a regional institution of higher education
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multicultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
