The Germanic Studies Department and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for a part-time benefits-eligible Lecturer in German language, for a one-year, non-renewable, term, starting January 1, 2019. The lecturer will teach in the German language program and coordinate all aspects of the First-Year sequence (inclusive of the first-year Intensive sequence).

A Masters degree in a relevant field is required; a PhD is preferred. Applicants must have experience teaching multiple levels of German language at a college or post- secondary institution and demonstrated experience in language pedagogy. German language proficiency at the ACTFL Advanced High level required. Experience teaching at a North American university preferred.

The teaching load will include four courses in beginning and intermediate German over three quarters per academic year, as well as the coordination of the courses in the first-year and intensive-sequence curriculum.
