Position Summary: The position is in the School of  Theatre & Dance at San Francisco State University.

The School of  Theatre & Dance of San Francisco State University.

The position is focused on  teaching and coordinating the undergraduate theatre history/literature sequence. The position is deeply engaged with the foundational courses which provide the basis for the breadth of our major, and which serve as the intellectual foundation for our dynamic performance and production programs.  In addition, as envisioned, this position would serve as a source for the investigation of emerging landscapes in the 21st Century Theatre, including World Theatre, and the ongoing convergence of Technology, Media, and Theatre.

The position brings to the School of Theatre Arts and Dance an emphasis on literature, criticism, theory and history of theatre, World Theatre, and the ongoing convergence of Technology, Media, and Theatre.

The position includes a full-time faculty workload per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the California State University and the California Faculty Association. The workload primarily includes teaching or other agreed upon primary assignment; conducting an active ongoing program of scholarship or creative works that advances knowledge in the field of one’s specialty; and service contributions to the department, college and the university.

Teaching assignments: The primary assignment for this position is coordinating and teaching the undergraduate theatre history/literature sequence, with possible graduate teaching in the MA program.

The scholarship may address a range of topics in the areas of literature, criticism, theory and history of theatre, World Theatre, and the ongoing convergence of Technology, Media, and Theatre.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, productive participation on departmental, college, and university-wide committees; mentoring and advising undergraduate and/or graduate students; holding regular office hours; curriculum development and improvement, particularly with regard to student learning outcomes; and remaining current in both subject area and teaching methodologies.  

Essential Job Tasks:

Facilitate  student success through teaching and advising with a focus on inclusive pedagogy;

Develop course materials for undergraduate and/or graduate students on topics such as Theatre History, Literature, Criticism, and/or Theory linked to student learning outcomes

Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, papers, etc. in a timely manner

Compile, administer, and grade examinations or other learning assessments

Maintain student grades and other required records or reporting materials

Guide and supervise department technicians in support of safe, clean studio facilities and equipment – if relevant for discipline

Conduct research in one's field of interest and present findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, or professional conferences and or a program of creative work in one’s specialty field; a program of scholarship in areas of specialty;  include creative activity, exhibiting, submitting peer review and or adjudication when relevant, etc.

Stay current on developments in the discipline 

Plan, evaluate and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction

Hold regularly-scheduled office hours for the purpose of advising and assisting students

Actively participate on assigned committees in accordance with School or College needs, and SF State's strategic vision

Actively participate in collegial interactions in fulfilling service assignments and other duties at the school, college, and university level
