Assistant Professor of English in Early Modern (1500-1700) - Tenure Track

Early Modern Literary and Cultural Studies: The English Department at the University of California, Riverside invites applications from early modernists (1500-1700) whose work will complement and build upon our department's strengths in critical race studies, transatlantic studies, history of science, queer theory, book history, and/or material culture. Research interests stretching into the 18c or beginning in late medieval also a plus. We are keen to hire a scholar taking exciting theoretical and methodological approaches to the field, while contributing to our department's excellence in British studies, a key component of the curriculum. Successful applicants should demonstrate how their work will create rich connections across the department and campus.

Qualifications: Applicants may be ABD at the time of application and must have met the requirements for the Ph.D. in a related field at time of appointment. Teaching experience is desirable.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

Duties: Responsibilities will include keeping an active research agenda and record of publications; teaching a regular course load (4 courses per academic year on the quarter system) at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and participating in departmental activities and administrative service at college and campus levels.
