The Department of Geography, Environment, and Sustainability at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of Economic Geography to begin August 1, 2019. We seek a dynamic scholar-teacher to help us build on existing departmental strengths. We are particularly interested in candidates with high potential to develop an externally-funded research program and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in one or more of the following areas: sustainable and resilient urban economies, regional economic development, globalization, and/or spatial inequity. It is also expected that the candidate will teach economic geography and regional economic development in addition to courses in the individual’s area of specialization.

The Department of Geography, Environment, and Sustainability currently offers the following degrees: B.A., M.A. in Applied Geography, and Ph.D. The Department houses the Environment & Sustainability Program. Information on the Department’s faculty, initiatives, degree programs, and concentrations can be found at our website (https://ges.uncg.edu). The Department has strong associations with several interdisciplinary programs on campus, including Archaeology and the Cross-Disciplinary Entrepreneurship Program. Ability to contribute to one or several of these programs will be viewed favorably and should be spelled out in the application letter. UNCG is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral Research University with Higher Research Activity.

Candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related discipline by August 1, 2019.

UNCG is a Minority Serving Institution, with an undergraduate population of 44% ethnic minority students. UNCG and the Department of Geography, Environment, and Sustainability foster an environment of collaboration across departments and schools and support community-engaged research. UNCG is proud of the diversity of its student body and we seek to attract an equally diverse applicant pool for this position. UNCG is located in a metropolitan area of more than 1.6 million in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Appalachian Mountains. UNCG is an EOE/Affirmative Action/M/F/D/V employer and are strongly committed to increasing faculty diversity.
