The University of Washington Bothell School of Educational Studies announces an opening for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Educational Leadership and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is tenure eligible, full-time (100% FTE), with a 9 month service period.  Anticipated start date is September 16, 2019. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The position involves program coordination and teaching in Leadership Development for Educators (LEDE), the school principal preparation program.  The position works with a part-time senior instructor, who is responsible for many administrative aspects of the LEDE program, and also works with part-time faculty members who teach core topics and work with interns. The LEDE faculty members:  (a) coordinate instruction across the entire LEDE program to ensure implementation of program standards; b) supervise principal internships and support internship mentors; c) recruit and advise students; and d) maintain relationships with schools, school districts, and external groups. The senior instructor will ensure the program is closely connected to the priorities of surrounding school districts and reflects current issues in professional practice.

The LEDE program prepares candidates for principal certification through a structured pathway from learning-focused teacher leadership into the principalship. The first year of the program focuses on helping teacher leaders build knowledge and skills for helping other teachers improve instruction, while the second year emphasizes school-wide responsibilities that create organizational contexts for effective teaching and learning.

LEDE emphasizes job-embedded internships and competency-based learning, and operates as a fully integrated program with all faculty sharing responsibility for the entire program’s curriculum, assessment, school partnerships, and candidate coaching.  LEDE’s year-long seminars (two in year 1 and three in year 2) are taught concurrently in a blended model with approximately one third in-class instruction during Saturday sessions, one-third through electronic support for performance tasks, and one-third internship. Faculty members responsible for seminar instruction and internship supervision attend all Saturday sessions and interact regularly with candidates through LEDE’s learning support system.
