Elon University invites applicants for a tenure-track position in Spanish at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2019. Area of expertise is open, but preference will be given to candidates with an interdisciplinary background and specialization in cultural studies. Additional experience and/or interest in curricular development, particularly the development of students’ intercultural competency is welcome. Requirements:  Ph.D. in Spanish or related field in hand by August 2019 and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the highest level of collegiality and the ability to contribute through service to a vibrant and growing Spanish section and collaborate with a dynamic and diverse department.

 

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in language and culture at all levels and interdisciplinary courses in Elon’s Core Curriculum Program. Successful candidates will demonstrate engagement and academic rigor in teaching and will be able to effectively convey their research to undergraduate Spanish majors and minors. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.

 

Please send a one to two-page letter, a one-page description of your teaching philosophy, current CV, three letters of recommendation from those who can speak to your teaching and/or scholarship, and up to three course syllabi from a variety of levels, including area of expertise if available. Finalists will need to provide graduate transcripts prior to the campus visit.
