Position
The Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations at the
University of Iowa invites applications for an academic year
tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant, associate
or full professor in the Learning Sciences program. The
position will begin August 2019.
Description
The Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations seeks
applicants for an open-rank tenure-track professor position in the
learning sciences. The successful candidate will have a
generative approach to advancing theory and general knowledge in
the learning sciences and investigating innovative learning
environments. Research interests that would complement those
of our current faculty include personalized and adaptive
learning. The University of Iowa provides many opportunities
for interdisciplinary research and collaboration with faculty in
the health, social sciences, and other disciplines. The
successful candidate will join the faculty of the Educational
Psychology and Learning Sciences program, which currently has a
Ph.D. and M.A. program as well as a strong service teaching
component in our College of Education.
Education Requirement
Prospective candidates must have earned a doctorate in the learning
sciences, educational psychology, instructional technology, or a
related discipline by August 2019.
Required Qualifications
(1) Evidence of scholarly productivity or promise of scholarly
productivity (rank dependent); (2) potential for securing external
funds for research, training, and program development; (3) interest
in building partnerships with local agencies, schools; and across
the university; and (4) ability to work collaboratively and with
diverse populations.
Desirable Qualifications
(1) Evidence of excellent teaching skills at graduate level, (2) a
record of securing external funds for grant-supported projects, and
(3) an established record of productivity in the development of
robust theoretical and methodological approaches in the learning
sciences.
Responsibilities
As a member of the educational psychology and learning sciences
program faculty, duties include sustaining a significant program of
scholarly activity, generating grant-supported projects, developing
and teaching graduate-level courses for both our degrees, advising
graduate students, and supervising graduate student research.

Highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and

Nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning August 2019.

About the Program
The Educational Psychology / Learning Sciences program at the
University offers an MA and PhD to students interested in
understanding and shaping learning in a number of settings –
schools, workplaces, higher education, museums, etc. The
program provides opportunities for engaging with research and
considering how the research can better influence instructional
practices and student outcomes. While the program of studies
for these two degrees share a number of courses, each propels
students enrolled to different goals. Students completing the
master’s program are prepared to apply the findings of learning
sciences research to the solution of problems in a broad range of
educational contexts. The doctoral program draws further on
the theories and practices that are grounded in educational
psychology and the learning sciences. The doctoral program
encourages and helps students acquire the depth of knowledge and
sophistication of methodology necessary for original research
contributions in those fields.
