Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning fall of 2019, and will carry the rank of assistant professor.

The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of East Asian Religions. This is a joint appointment in Religion (.67 FTE) and East Asian Studies (.33 FTE).  Teaching responsibilities include introductory courses (First Year Seminars or 100-level courses), survey courses covering diverse regions, traditions, and historical periods, intermediate-level thematic courses, advanced seminars, and methods in religious studies. Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2019-2020). The incumbent should be a specialist in the religions of China, Japan, or Korea (or any combination thereof) with additional expertise in the academic study of religion. Expertise in the relevant languages, texts, and cultural frameworks is essential. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
