The Department of English at Old Dominion University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English in Early Modern British Literature and Culture with an expected start date of July 25, 2019. Preference will be given to candidates whose research addresses questions of race and ethnicity, and who demonstrate expertise in both Shakespeare and in historical and theoretical recovery of marginalized texts and identities within the Early Modern period.  Successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in Early Modern British literature and Shakespeare ranging from undergraduate surveys to topics courses for PhD students. A significant publication record in British Early Modern studies, evidence of excellence in teaching, and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity are also required. Secondary expertise in one or more of the following is desirable: Critical Race Theory, Postcolonial Studies, Gender/Queer Theory, Textual Scholarship.
