Early Modern Studies, Assistant Professor in the Department of English

 

Description

The English Department at the University of Oklahoma seeks applicants for a tenure track position in early modern literature at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Applicants may have a research focus in poetry, drama, prose or some combination, but should also demonstrate an ability to teach in various genres and across the Tudor-Stuart period. We are looking for candidates whose work is exciting and innovative, whether historicist, formalist or theoretical.  Desirable secondary areas could include trans-Atlanticism, post-colonial, gender studies, digital humanities, history of the book or religion. The faculty position is a full-time, nine-month appointment and entails teaching four semester-length courses each academic year. Faculty teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our student body is wide, diverse, intellectually generous, highly engaged, and open to varied approaches. A supportive academic environment, the department also edits Genre, a major journal in literary and cultural studies, is affiliated with World Literature Today and Chinese Literature Today as well as the Translation Archive, the Center for Medieval and Early Modern Studies, the Variorum Chaucer, the Native Crossroads Film Festival, and the Mark Allen Everett Poetry Series. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position include the promise of serious research, and the ability to teach and develop courses on early modernity, as well as a PhD by the time of appointment, 8/15/2019.
