Department Summary:
The Anthropology Department at Bridgewater State University provides a strong liberal arts curriculum aimed at developing well-rounded, informed citizens with strong critical thinking abilities. Department programs also impart skills to students, preparing them for a wide range of professions. The department encourages students to continue on to graduate study.

Many Anthropology Department faculty members engage in research and the department encourages student-faculty collaborative research. Students may also carry out internships. The public archaeology concentration requires that students participate in field work or laboratory work, and the department offers a summer archaeological field school.

Essential Duties:
The Anthropology Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position for an Anthropological Archaeologist with geographic expertise in Eastern North America. The successful candidate will begin in the Fall semester of 2019.

We seek an individual with demonstrated ability to teach a range of undergraduate courses in a broad-based anthropology program with a 4/4 teaching load. Courses offered must include the following:

ANTH 103: Introduction to Archaeology
ANTH 328: Archaeology of North America
ANTH 410: Public Archaeology.

In addition, the candidate would be expected to supervise field/laboratory research in archaeology, and be able to teach ANTH 303/504: Archaeological Field Excavation in Sites in New England. We currently offer a graduate certificate in Applied Anthropology. Teaching opportunities may be available in this program.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department’s efforts to attract and retain a diverse population to our major, to maintain continuing scholarly activities and contribute service at the department, college and university levels.

Required Qualifications:
PhD in Anthropology or ABD candidates with an expected completion date of August 31, 2019 or earlier.

Teaching experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:
Two years of full time or equivalent experience teaching in public higher education.

Demonstrated scholarly or research achievement.
