Franklin College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the English and Creative Writing Department to begin August 2019.  Located about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis, Franklin College provides a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors. The new hire will join the department and the college at a time of exciting change.  The English and Creative Writing Department will be undertaking changes to its curriculum in order to help lead a new campus curricular initiative focused on immersive hands-on teaching and learning. Please see www.FranklinCollege.edu for more details.

The ideal candidate has primary interests in fiction and composition. Preferred secondary interests are global literature, American literature, and creative non-fiction. The candidate will teach in the English and Creative Writing Department and in the college’s Liberal Arts curriculum. Faculty are encouraged to develop new courses fueled by their interests.  The teaching load is 24 credit hours a year, which typically includes three courses a semester. The candidate will also teach an immersive winter term course once every three years. Broad service to the college such as advising and committee work is required. Candidates with an interest in the co-management of a reading series and the publication of Apogee, our literary journal, are particularly welcome.

Candidates who can demonstrate a dedication to teaching and a genuine interest in working with undergraduates in a small, collegial liberal arts setting that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction will be given preference. We seek applications from individuals with the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to diversity, especially those with demonstrated success working with diverse populations. Intercultural experience would be an asset. Candidates must have at least two years of college teaching experience.  Ph.D. preferred; M.F.A. with significant record of publishing and teaching considered.

Review of applications will begin Friday, November 2, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled.  Candidates should submit a letter of application, vita, and statement of teaching philosophy by going to Franklin College Faculty Application. Please do not send any additional materials at this time.
