The Department of History at the University of Utah seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor in World History before 1500. The region of specialization is open. Applicants must have a research and teaching profile that demonstrates a commitment to the study of comparisons or connections between major world regions (the Mediterranean, western Asia, the Indian Ocean world, sub-Saharan Africa, eastern Asia, Australasia, Oceania, or the Americas). Thematic areas of particular departmental interest in this period include but are not limited to comparatives empires, comparative slavery, the history of trade, religion, the environment, technology, migrations, and health, medicine, and disease. The successful candidate will be able to teach World History before 1500, participate in World History curriculum development, and offer courses in the field of specialization at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
