The Department of English invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in global modernist literature at the rank of assistant professor beginning in July 2019. We especially encourage applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: comparative modernisms; media studies; disability studies; postcolonial or decolonial approaches; race and ethnicity studies; eco-criticism; gender and sexuality studies; digital humanities; and trans-oceanic or hemispheric studies. Given Amherst's commitment to fostering an intellectually challenging and inclusive educational environment, our expectation is that the successful candidate will demonstrate competence and sensitivity in teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, ability, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. With that in mind, we ask that candidates for this position, in addition to describing their scholarly growth and accomplishment, also take the application letter as an opportunity to speak briefly to teaching and the cultivation of classroom environments.
An application letter, c.v., short writing sample of no more than thirty pages, and three confidential letters of recommendation should be submitted electronically to https://apply.interfolio.com/54622. Applications received by November 2, 2018, will receive full consideration; review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
